In fact, the official name of products that perform this function is “signal booster”, as defined by the National Telecommunications Agency (Anatel). Therefore, this is a good indication of what these devices do: they reinforce the waves present in a place with already reasonable coverage.

For this, the devices usually use a collector antenna, which captures the signal already existing in the external environment. Afterwards, it is directed to the repeater and forwarded to the server antenna, which will be able to deliver a higher quality network.
The described system is simplified, but in larger fields the signal repetition can happen through more complex schemes — that is, with more collector and server antennas, connected by physical cables.
In any case, care must be taken: it is not enough to place a reinforcer in “hidden” areas, as in that case it will not fulfill its function correctly.
