Summer can be a good opportunity to renew your DNI and passport, taking advantage of the tourist exodus at the beginning of the year. Many people have already gone on vacation, so it is likely that there will be less queue and more turns, which would make the process easier than in other times.

How to renew the DNI
To renew the National Identity Document (DNI) it is necessary:

  • Take a turn online (https://www.argentina.gob.ar/turnos) indicating the place of residence and the establishment.
  • The procedure has a cost of $300 and a surcharge of $50 is applied in case of renewal in a shopping center.

There are two ways to renew the DNI:

  1. the 24-hour DNI is available at the Renaper centers (National Registry of Persons) and can be withdrawn in 24 hours.
  2. The express DNI has a value of $1,500 and can be processed through the official Government website.

What are the requirements to process the DNI

  • It is necessary to have the previous DNI and, in case it has been lost or stolen, it is necessary to bring the report of loss. However, these are not exclusive requirements.
  • Minors under 14 years of age must be accompanied by their parents or guardians to carry out the process.

How to process or renew the passport
This month can also be a good time to apply for the first time or renew your passport. The standard passport process costs $4,000, either for the first copy or to renew it. The turn to manage it can be obtained through the Government website.

A surcharge of $100 will also be charged for procedures carried out in shopping centers, air, port and fluvial terminals.

There are two more modalities to process or renew it

  1. express passport: It has an additional cost of $3,500, which brings the fee to $7,500. The procedure is faster and is received at home within 4 business days after the procedure.
  2. instant passport: It is used in cases of emergencies or when there is a need to travel and do not have up-to-date documentation. In this case, the procedure can be carried out at the authorized airports and it can take between 2 and 6 hours, depending on the delay in the controls carried out by external organizations. This modality is available at the airports of Salta, Córdoba, Mendoza, Rosario, Ezeiza and Aeroparque. The cost is $21,000, which increases the final fee to $25,000.
