– I’m actually happy just to get anything at this time, because February is not the best time for spin fishing, says Tore Tveit to The fishing newspaper.

He is an experienced fisherman, originally from Treungen in Telemark, who lives in Arendal.

On Monday he was out at one of his secret fishing ponds. Tveit is no novice. Using sonar, he located a fish, without knowing anything about its size.

He cast in the Westin Bullteez Curltail in Goldrush color and let it sink to the bottom with ten grams of lead on it. After a few cranks, the fish was hooked.

He still had no idea of its size, because it easily drifted up towards the boat. Then it changed its behavior and offered Tveit a proper fight.

– Only then did I realize that this was a big fish, says Tveit.

In the end, he emerged victorious.

– I have never known the husband. It was big, heavy and broad, and with a skull so huge that you could almost be a little scared.

The pike was measured at 19.46 kilograms. It is only 80 grams away from the Norwegian record, which Willy Hvorup set in 2017.

– I can live well with having Norway’s second largest, says Tveit happily.

He says that the fish was released back into the water, healthy and fine, after it had been weighed and measured.
