longing for the island that suffers

MIAMI.- Nostalgia is a party that disguises the sadness of longing for a dream as joy. For this reason, around the image of the motherland, thousands of immigrants pay tribute to the largest of the Antilles in Cuba Nostalgia. A mixture of the unpleasantness of knowing she is enslaved, but with the hope that one day, sooner rather than later, she will break the shackles and rebuild her from the ashes where communism has engulfed her.

This iconic celebration, which commemorates Cuba’s vibrant heritage and traditions, will celebrate its 25th anniversary on May 18 and 19, 2024.

In conversation with DIARIO LAS AMRICAS, organizer Peter Regalado said that the event will have a space to venerate the virgin of the island. “It’s going to be special, we will venerate our Virgin of Charity of Cobre, we will have a Catholic mass on Sunday in the cathedral and we will broadcast it. But we will also celebrate Willy Chirino and his 50-year career, closing on Sunday with a great concert and the exhibition of his career in a kind of museum, he detailed.

Since its beginnings, Cuba Nostalgia has been a meeting point for those who long to reconnect with the corners, sounds and flavors of the isla. In this special edition, the event promises a unique experience that will captivate all attendees.

We will have Los 3 de La Habana, Lena Burke, Leoni, Roberto Torres, among others, revealed Regalado.

In addition to free concerts, Cuba Nostalgia will offer a wide variety of activities and attractions, including authentic Cuban cuisine, unique crafts and immersive exhibits that will highlight the island’s history and contributions to North American society.

“We are excited to celebrate 25 years of Cuba Nostalgia with such extraordinary programming. It will be a tribute to the Cuban cultural legacy and an opportunity to bring our community together around our traditions and values,” added the organizer. “Hopefully next year we will celebrate it in Cuba, that is a sign that it is free.”

Among the people gathered there was a sense of good Cubanism and a generalized hope as a common denominator. Convinced that, as Chirino himself said in one of his most popular songs: our day is coming.

At the ceremony, the official poster of the event was unveiled, inspired by a painting by artist Erik Ravelo.
