The average annual income in NRW in 2018 was 42,000 euros. Some cities in the Ruhr area can be found at the end of the statistics.
Significant growth: In 2018, income in NRW rose to 42,000 euros. It is in these communities that income has grown the most.
The average annual income in North Rhine-Westphalia increased significantly between 2010 and 2018. As reported by the State Statistical Office in Düsseldorf on Thursday based on wage and income tax statistics, the average annual income before taxes per taxpayer in 2018 was 42,102 euros. In 2010 it was 33,199 euros per taxpayer. This meant an arithmetical increase of almost 27 percent.
In these communities, the average income was highest
According to the state office, in 2018 a total of 8.9 million income taxpayers had total income of 373.2 billion euros. Of the 396 towns and communities in North Rhine-Westphalia, Meerbusch (Rhein-Kreis Neuss) had the highest average income with an average of EUR 69,577 per taxpayer, Odenthal (Rheinisch-Bergischer Kreis) with EUR 60,196 and Roetgen (Aachen region) with EUR 57,127.
Two cities in the Ruhr area at the lower end of the scale
The city with the highest average values was Düsseldorf with 52,501 euros per taxpayer (15th place). Cologne was 96th with an average income of 45,231 euros. Essen ranked 232nd with 41,180 euros, Dortmund 358th with 37,357 euros. At the lower end of the income scale were Gelsenkirchen (32,452 euros), Duisburg (32,346 euros) and Weeze in the district of Kleve (31,063 euros). According to the state office, it should be taken into account that spouses who are assessed together are counted as one taxpayer in this survey.
The figures could only be published now because the tax authorities only made the anonymized tax data available for statistical evaluations after all assessment work had been completed. (epd)
