Content creators will have to register as service providers so that the authorities are aware of their activity

Audiovisual consumption has changed a lot in the last ten years, until reaching the point where the “streamers“, content creators such as ElRubius, TheGrefg, Auronplay or Ibai Llanos have such a high audience in their broadcasts that it exceeds that of many television channels.
What until now differentiated “streamers” from television and also from platforms such as Netflix, HBO, Disney+, AppleTV o Prime Video, among others, was in Spain the General Law of Audiovisual Communication; a standard that presents changes.
Until now, these content creators with large communities of followers were not under the umbrella of this rule that puts limits on content concerns.
Now the National Commission of Markets and Competition (CNMC) of Spain published a report on the State Registry of Audiovisual Communication Service Providers. In it, it added streamers with special relevance within its regulatory framework.
The report notes that the content creator is the “person who has effective control over the selection of content”.
The document develops a classification to differentiate streamers according to the medium in which they broadcast their content (radio, satellite, IPTV), and if its content is open or paid, in addition to also differentiating between the national or local scope.

Greater control over streamers
Thus, the CNMC created the new category for streamers and, therefore, they will have to register as service providers so that the authorities know their activity.
The goal is that content creators are better defined and there is Greater control of your business activities.
Their advertising campaigns, as is the case of TheGrefg with Red Bull, for example, they will have to be informed.
It is also intended differentiate between content for adults and for minorsin addition to making sure that they do not incite hatred either.
Thus, the same requirements will be applied to streamers as in the TV shows.
