NOSa 5,000-year-old region in Saudi Arabia that connects Asia, Africa and Europe, will become the most futuristic area in the world with the development of The Line, Trojena and Oxagon.
These three megaprojects are part of the kingdom’s Vision 2030 plan to diversify its economy and stop depending on the oil market. Then, We detail these futuristic locations that will focus on renewable energy.
The Line
The Line, with a budget of 500 billion dollars, is a metropolis that works in the same structure of 34 square kilometers, but with access to everything you need by walking for five minutes.
Basically, they are two skyscrapers that are about 500 meters high and draw an amazing line in the middle of the desert in the Middle East that lives up to its name. The buildings will have two meters of separation between them and will have enough space for the 9 million residents.
The main idea of NEOM is a concept of “zero gravity urbanism”, superimposing the functions of the city in a vertical way. The inhabitants will be able to move in three directions: up, down and crosswise.
One of the curiosities of the impressive town is that it will be covered on all sides with giant mirrors, in order to alleviate the desert climate of the area.
The length of the two buildings will be 170 kilometers long, a line that will be traveled by flying taxis and a high-speed train that will go from end to end in just 20 minutes. There will be no traditional cars on The Line and the vehicles that will be in the air will be electric.
The futuristic city will also feature robotic avatars and holograms powered by artificial intelligence. Intelligent robots will help with household chores and care for residents in different areas of The Line.
Trojena
Trojena is a ski center in the middle of the desert that, in the words of NEOM, “is a unique travel destination in the mountains”. The project is also budgeted at 500 billion dollars.
This open-air ski resort, with an artificial lake, will also have cycling and swimming areas nearby. In addition, after all the activities, visitors will be able to go to the Vault, a kind of vertical village very much in the style of The Line, made up of restaurants, retail stores and other facilities.
At The Bow Hotel, another of NEOM’s creations in Trojena, people will have luxury resorts for the family. There will also be 25hours and Morgans Original hotels, including 2,000-meter spas and bathhouses.
The big question surrounding this futuristic megaproject is how they will generate snow in Saudi Arabia. The people behind Vision 2030 explained that in the kingdom there are peaks higher than 2,600 meters above sea level and where snow falls during winter, with temperatures below 0 degrees in that season.
Trojena will open its doors in 2026, and will host the 2029 Asian Winter Games.
oxagon
Oxagon will be the largest floating structure on Earth, serving as both a port and a city. It will be one of 10 regions within the development in northeast Saudi Arabia and will be a port town on the Red Sea.
The Saudis’ goal with Oxagon is to harness transportation at sea for trips through the Suez Canal, an ideal location through which about 13 percent of world trade passes.
Oxagon will be one of the most technologically advanced logistics centers in the world with state-of-the-art integrated port and airport connectivity, the report highlights.
As its name indicates, as well as the leaked images, this port city will have an octagonal shape. Its development will be partly on land and a large section will protrude into the Red Sea.
The city part will be built around squares filled with water, connected by small canals. It will also have a cruise terminal and an oceanographic research center, all powered by 100 percent renewable energy.
Ultimately, Oxagon will establish the world’s first fully integrated port and supply chain ecosystem. To achieve this, the port, logistics and rail delivery facilities will be unified, with zero carbon emissions.
