In a few days, the new and 16th season of the jungle camp will start on RTL (“I’m a star – get me out of here!”). Claudia Effenberg and Cecilia Asoro are two candidates from North Rhine-Westphalia. But why is Claudia Effenberg moving to the RTL jungle camp? And how did her family react?
Jungle camp candidate 2023: Claudia Effenberg was born in Menden
Claudia Effenberg comes from Menden in Sauerland. At the age of 19 she was discovered as a model. But she only had her public breakthrough years later: from 1997 to 2002 she was married to footballer Thomas Strunz. Three years later, she married Stefan Effenberg, Strunz’s teammate. Today the 57-year-old designs dirndls.
Effenberg has already appeared in front of the camera on several television formats. For example, she took part in “Grill den Hensler”, “Schlag den Star” or “Celebrity Big Brother”.

She now sees the jungle as a change, as she explained to RTL in an interview. 2022 was the most catastrophic year of her life. She lost four people from her close family circle.

Her family’s reactions to the jungle participation varied, she explained in a picture interview. “Now my daughter didn’t jump for joy. My son was as happy as a schnitzel, he thought it was mega.” But there was one condition from him: “You don’t eat Schniedelwutz!” He would find that disgusting at 22. I then promised him.”
According to Effenberg, husband Stefan took it easy. “My husband Stefan thought everything was great, there were no rules. He just said: “You will outgrow yourself!” “Before departure, he also gave her a love letter that she was only allowed to open on the plane. “It said, ‘You are my queen!’ Is not that cute?”
Jungle camp candidate 2023: When does the new season start?
The new season of the jungle camp starts on January 13 (Friday) at 9:30 p.m. on RTL. From Monday (January 15), the team led by moderators Sonja Zietlow and Jan Köppen will be on the air every weekday at 10:30 p.m. The finale will take place on January 29 (Sunday) at 10:15 p.m.
