Martha Iveth Flores Aceves, Psychologist from the Social Assistance Directorate of the Autonomous University of Guadalajara (UAG), explained at the conference “Anguish and Fear, tools in your favor” what it consists of and how to handle it.

The expert pointed out that anguish is an affective state that designates a certain state of expectation in the face of danger.

Distress increases sensory attention, motor skills, the need to flee, active defense, tremors, choking, and more. This is normal, we have it since we were born, but we can control it and use it to our advantage.

Flores Aceves, in turn, commented that if he perceives that anguish is transformed into another class of feelings, it is best to see an expert to treat the condition.

There are, he explained, two types of anguish.

• The realistic, which appears before something rational and understandable.

• The expectant, which is awakened by any stimulus and influences judgment, chooses expectations and is the most intense.

It can be treated as follows:

-Name her. Giving it a name helps to know what is affecting us.

– Let yourself be felt. It is not about distracting yourself, because anguish accumulates, like throwing dust under the rug, you have to let it rise to know it and live it. -Listen to the body. You have to learn to understand what affects us and how the body reacts to know what happens to us and treat it. -Anguish also has to do with being different from what we were told all our lives that we had to be, let’s learn what belongs to us and accept it as something natural.

It is better to make the wrong decision than not to make any. Avoiding decisions only brings more anguish, it is best to “do something”, to let it pile up.
