The recent NBA draft had a peculiarity, and it was that revolved around Victor Wembanyama. French player who was chosen by the San Antonio Spurs in the first round and who, according to several experts, is one of the greatest promises in basketball.
The 19-year-old is an astonishingly talented player, and they considered there hasn’t been such a promising rookie player since the 2003 draft with LeBron James. Even the contract offered to him by the Texas franchise was the most lucrative in NBA history for a rookie.
However, basketball legend Tracy McGrady does not seem to agree as much as Wembanyama has been made to see. And she affirms that the hype that the press and the entire environment have for the rookie basketball player is “excessive”.
Recently in an interview with Brandon ‘Scoop B’ Robinson, the NBA Hall of Famer revealed that: “They are talking about the greatest player of all time and this and that, come on man. We have to relax with that. We don’t know what this boy is going to be“, launched McGrady, questioning the performance of the young player in the best basketball in the world.
“I know he will be well prepared, he will get the best advice because he is surrounded by greatness: Greg Popovich, Tim Duncan, David Robinson and in that sense, he will be prepared. But let it play out, man“, analyzed the former player.
On the other hand, T-Mac emphasized that Wemby is reaching a high-level league, and that there will be other experienced players who will not let the Frenchman pass them by.
“This is the NBA. He will have to face some real dogs. You know what I am saying? With him coming from France and you think he’s going to be the boss? There will be some guys here who will challenge him, so let’s let this play out,” closed the 7-time NBA All-Star Game.
