Leiji Matsumoto, creator of the famous Japanese manga "Captain Harlock"is dead

It’s a cartoon that marked an entire generation. Broadcast in France from 1981, the Japanese manga “Albator” is the success of Leiji Matsumoto. This precocious creator published his first manga when he was 15 years old. The author made a name for himself in the mid-1970s with his first works of science fiction. But it was the scarred pirate with the long black and red cape, Captain Albator, who would make him world famous.

A collaboration with Daft Punk

Having become an icon of pop culture, Leiji Matsumoto notably collaborated with Daft Punk in 2003, the most famous helmeted duo in music. The manga creator died last week, at the age of 85, of heart failure, the production company Toei announced on Monday February 20.
