Mads Mikkelsen talks about his character in 'Indiana Jones and the Dial of Destiny'

The return of Harrison Ford as Indiana Jones for a new movie was good news for fans, but it didn’t come as a surprise.. Because? The formula for success in the entertainment industry is currently based on appealing to nostalgia by bringing back outstanding films from past decades with their iconic characters.

And no one is more iconic than Indiana Jones. But for the same reason, the challenge was greater compared to other productions: How to define a compelling reason, assimilating the importance of the character, to bring him back? How to respect the Indy legacy in favor of its first fans but to present it to new generations?

The first response was obtained with the address of James Mangoldresponsible for great titles such as Walk the Line, Logan o Ford v Ferrari. And the second with the cast that would accompany Ford commanded by Phoebe Waller-Bridge as an adventure companion and Mads Mikkelsen as the delivery villain.

Right with the Danish actor we sat down to talk about what his character represents. And we did it together Boyd Holbrook y Shaunette Renée Wilsonwho are part of the Mikkelsen clan as antagonists of Indiana Jones and the Dial of Destiny. Here is the full interview:

Indiana Jones and the Dial of Destiny

Indiana Jones and the Dial of Destiny es the first film in this archaeologist’s franchise not to be directed by Steven Spielberg (He was a producer of the tape, yes). The story introduces us to a 79-year-old Indiana Jones living in New York, he is about to get divorced and also about to retire as a teacher.

He always seems to be angry and bitter, but he is actually sad. Why did a lifetime of adventure end this way? Or at least that is the question that seems to be asked with the emphasis on the word “finish”. However, everything changes when Helena Shaw, his goddaughter and daughter of his colleague (Professor Basil Shaw), seeks him out for help in finding a powerful artifact known as the “dial of fate.”

What is this? An object created by the mythical Archimedes that, according to Basil Shaw’s studies, gives the owner the power to control time and space. However. By having this quality, it becomes one of the most precious artifacts in history, and one of the targets of the Nazis since World War II.

So when Helena goes to Indiana Jones to find the object, he reveals that it has always been in his hands. But at the same time the Nazis who have survived look for him in order to establish Nazi ideology throughout the world.

The thing is that the dial of fate is split in two. So the slope of Indiana Jones and company, focuses on find the other half to prevent it from falling into the wrong hands.

The cast of Indiana Jones

As we know, Indiana Jones is played again by Harrison Fordwho in one of the most incredible sequences of Dial of Destiny, is rejuvenated to transport him to the 40s and fight, for the first time, against the Nazis who seized the dial.

Phoebe Waller-Bridge takes on the character of Helena Shaw, who becomes the second in command in this adventure. And so, although she doesn’t get much of it but her appearances are great, we also see the incredible of Toby Jones as Professor Basil Shaw.

One of the most powerful interpretations, without a doubt, is that of Mads Mikkelsen as Jürgen Voller, who becomes the villain of the story. And next to him appear two “minions” played by Boyd Holbrook y Shaunette Renée Wilson.
