Now the authorities have set a limit on the number of visitors per year – exactly 16.5 million.

Fewer paying more
Especially in the summer months, there is high pressure on the popular holiday destinations.
Avisa writes that both local residents and tourists experience the influx as negative, considering both environmental damage and other consequences of the massive tourism.
The maximum limit is part of a larger plan for tourism: The authorities want fewer tourists, but who leave more money than before.
In other words, fewer tourists who come only for sun, swimming and partying, and more who seek luxury, culture and experiences.
The idea is that fewer tourists should be able to generate more income because the product is better and can be priced higher, writes Flysmart24.
The strategy can be summarized with three points: Fewer flights, fewer rental cars and fewer visitors.
Excited to see if they can pull it off
Commercial director of Finn Reise, Terje Berge, says Mallorca is the first in Europe to actually carry out such a measure.
– They have said for a long time that they want fewer tourists, so it is not surprising that this is being introduced now, but whether they want to make it happen is another matter.
Berge says other destinations are considering doing the same, but that they will wait to see how Mallorca implements it.

– How will this be implemented in practice?
– How they are going to control hotel prices is really one big puzzle. But they do have a plan.
