Many thousands of drivers are on the A 448 in Bochum diverted to another lane. It is about the several hundred meter long section between the Altenbochum (Nordhausenring) and Wiemelhausen (Universitätsstraße) junctions in the direction of Wattenscheid.
Since Wednesday evening, vehicles that were previously driving on the south side of the autobahn in the direction of Wattenscheid have been diverted to two lanes on the brand new asphalted and previously unused north side. The exit and driveway to Unistraße in the direction of Wattenscheid were also closed on Wednesday evening. This blockage was lifted again early Thursday morning, said Autobahn Westfalen GmbH when asked.
The conversion work for the traffic shift had already begun on Wednesday morning; they last until Friday. This leads to traffic delays.

Because if the traffic has now been relocated towards Wattenscheid on the north side, a completely new median will only be built for six to eight weeks. Only when this is finished will the traffic in the direction of Witten be relocated from the south side to the north side, also on two lanes.
After that, the entire south side will be completely rebuilt. Once this is complete, traffic in the direction of Witten will be relocated from the north side back to the south side. “We’re assuming late summer,” says project manager Karsten Uhrig.
