The day the woman was found dead, the suspect was on the scene but was not arrested until days later when he confessed to the crime, now it is his son who is being charged with the murder.
Sean Michael Cuesta was arrested by the North Miami Beach police exactly 18 days after committing an unthinkable crime at the mother’s own residence. According to authorities, the man stabbed and beat his own mother to death inside the apartment.
A neighbor of the 64-year-old victim who was found dead says he heard several crashes after learning that the woman had been murdered.
When officers arrived on scene they contacted the victim’s husband and the defendant outside the residence.
The woman’s spouse told officers that he found his wife lying face down on the floor of the main room, unconscious, shirtless and with her pants pulled down to her knees.
For his part, the 36-year-old suspect told police he was the woman’s son. The arrest report indicates that Sean Michael Cuesta had visible lacerations and although he said he spent most of the day with his mother at the house, he said he left the apartment for two hours.
Oscar Cufré, the victim’s neighbor, says there was no noise. “Nothing, it was calm, I came with my daughter and I saw all those ambulances there… Since 2013, when I moved here, everything was perfect, there was no crime, none of that.”
The investigation revealed that that night of June 11, the subject and the victim had a verbal altercation that escalated to the physical and the defendant began to throw multiple objects towards his mother, hitting her on the head and face. He then stabbed her four times with a knife that was recovered at the scene.
Officials say days later the man phoned his aunt and confessed to killing his mother.
The defendant remains in custody at the TGK County Jail without bail facing a second degree murder charge.
