Former world champion soccer player in 1978, Mario Alberto Kempes, considered that “it would not be healthy for Lionel Messi to return to Barcelona” and admitted that he would like him to continue at Paris Saint-Germain (PSG) so that he is “calmer” in the face to the 2026 World Cup.

“I don’t think it’s healthy for Messi to return to Barcelona. He would be better off in France, so that he arrives calmly at the next World Cup, he should stay there. Barcelona’s objectives are different, they are still building up,” said the “Matador”, from 68 years old, in dialogue with the newspaper Mundo Deportivo.

In this sense, he defined himself as “selfish” and added: “Thinking about the Argentine National Team, it is better for Messi to stay at PSG for his physical and mental peace of mind; it is more likely that he will arrive fresher at the next World Cup”

On the other hand, he was asked about the whistles that Messi received from a sector of PSG fans: “What happens is that he is playing in France, a country that played the final in Qatar with Argentina and lost it, and Messi was the figure. Perhaps it hurts them to have the best player in the world in their team and that he doesn’t perform as he did in Qatar”, he concluded.
