Kodi is a free, open-source media center software available for a variety of platforms including Windows, macOS, Linux, Android, and iOS. With Kodi, users can play and organize music, movies, TV shows, and other media content from local and remote locations.
One of Kodi’s most important features is the ability to install add-ons that provide additional functionality and content. There are hundreds of official and unofficial add-ons that users can install to access media from various sources.
The developers have now released Kodi 19.5. A few bugs were fixed there Changelog can be found here. If everything runs smoothly, you can almost wait for Kodi 20, which already has release candidate status.
As this is a point release, there are no major changes from the previous version, and users should be able to easily install this version over any existing Kodi 19.x installation – it will even happen automatically on many platforms. However, as with all software installations, users should back up their user data beforehand if they have any doubts or have something they don’t want to lose (and you certainly do if you’re going to do a major version upgrade).
Please note, especially for Android, that the developers cannot provide this update via the Google Play Store. An updated Google requirement now requires apps to meet at least API level 31 (Android 12), while Kodi v19 must meet API level 29 (Android 10). Because of this, Kodi 19.5 cannot be uploaded to the Play Store, although 19.3 will remain available until 20.0 is available to the general public. However, if you want the new version, you can download 19.5 download from server and install manually.
