The underground section of Line 12 of the Metro, from Mixcoac to Atlalilco, was reopened this Sunday at 10:00 in the morning. As part of the reactivation, the service will be free today in any of 9 o’clock stations of Line 12 that are already in operation:

The support routes with RTP and Metrobús, assigned by Semovi will continue to provide service: On the elevated section of Line 12 from Atlalilco to Tláhuac; from the Constitución de 1917 station, on line 8, to Tláhuac with stops in Tlaltenco and Tláhuac; and the provisional route of Line 5 of the Metrobús.

CDMX government affirms that the reopening is safe

The head of Government of Mexico City, Claudia Sheinbaum Pardo, gave the starting signal for the reopening of Line 12, after it closed more than a year and a half ago due to a collapse in the elevated section, catastrophe that claimed the lives of 26 people and left dozens more with injuries.

“This work that we have been doing to also guarantee the safety of Line 12 is very important. In recent days, the Mexico City Metro has been in the public eye, after the collision of two trains on Line 3, in which a young woman lost her life and more than twenty people had to be hospitalized.

In the process of clarifying the causes of the accident, the capital’s government assigned 6,000 members of the National Guard to monitor the Collective Transportation System (STC)-Metro.

The general director of the Metro, Guillermo Calderon Aguileraclarified that “the tunnel was reviewed under the strictest protocols by the College of Engineers, the Construction Safety Institute and is in extraordinary safety conditions and protected for any situation of earthquake or ground movement.”

In addition to this, for the work improvements were made to seven closed curves, that is, narrow in their radius of curvature that required reinforcement with better materials and improvement of their alignment and cant.

A comprehensive review of all systems was carried out, including the wells and drainage systems, in addition, more than 15,000 sleepers and 17,400 meters of rail were changed.

As for the trains, they underwent an evaluation of the safety of the operation, there simulations were made in progress, to see how the wheel fits with the rail.

“There is sufficient accreditation for the safety of the operation and to guarantee adequate and correct compliance of the trains at all times, that is, we have the safety of operation certification,” Calderón Aguilera pointed out.
