The Mexican government will request a report from the United States on the alleged espionage of the Pentagon to the Army.

The Secretary of Foreign Relations, Marcelo Ebrard, reported that this request would be communicated to the US government starting yesterday.

“We will make an approach through the appropriate diplomatic channels asking that, today (yesterday) we are going to ask that they inform us, that they give us the details. It is an obligation of the United States to share it with Mexico or, where appropriate, not to share it but to point out that the information is not true,” the foreign minister reported after participating in the presentation of the WhatsApp number to process the appointment for the issuance of the Mexican passport. .

AMLO accusations

Yesterday, in his daily conference, Andrés Manuel López Obrador, president of Mexico, accused that the Mexican Armed Forces are being spied on by the Pentagon, for which reason he ordered that the institution’s information be protected for reasons of national security.

“We are going to take care of the information from the Secretary of the Navy and the Secretary of Defense because we are being the object of espionage by the Pentagon, and many information media in Mexico are leaking information that the DEA gives them,” he assured.

López Obrador indicated that this decision was made after what was published by the Washington Post last week about alleged tensions between the Secretary of National Defense and the Navy over issues such as the division of functions and the federal budget, which were US military leaks. .

“Now it turns out that the Pentagon is informing the Washington Post,” criticized AMLO and added: “they want to interfere as it was before (…) they want to rule, violate our sovereignty,” for which he assured that they are beginning to leak information with the intention of weaken the government.

On the question of whether withholding information makes his administration less transparent, the chief executive said that he does not have conscience problems and that the decision responds to an interventionist plan that different opposition groups have to “continue stealing.”
