Mexico City.- The coordinator of the Morena senators, Ricardo Monreal, proposed a new reform to the Judiciary, so that there are honest and non-corrupt judges.

Monreal made such a pronouncement after President Andrés Manuel López Obrador ordered members of his Cabinet not to have contact with the ministers or to negotiate anything with the Judiciary, upset that the president of the Court, Norma Piña, tried to agree with the Government on the times in which the disincorporation of the National Guard of the Sedena must be carried out and return it to Public Security.

“Mexico requires a new justice system, with honest judges, who have no skills for complicity, corruption or political vendettas,” Monreal said.

The president of the Political Coordination Board assured that the country requires a new justice system.

“With honest judges, a justice system much better than the one we have,” he said prior to a meeting with the Governor of Puebla, Sergio Salomón Céspedes, to address cases of people deprived of their liberty, who may probably be innocent.

In a press conference, accompanied by civil society organizations that seek the release of people, he considered that a constitutional reform is necessary to build the justice system that Mexicans deserve.

Monreal also attended the Tepexi de Rodríguez Social Reintegration Center, in Puebla, to meet with people deprived of their liberty, whose cases present alleged irregularities.

He stated that justice and peace tables should be created to review the files of people who are deprived of their liberty for “non-legal” reasons.

In 2021, a reform to the Judiciary was approved, proposed by the then president of the Supreme Court, Arturo Zaldívar, with which it was said that lags in the Judiciary and the corruption of judges would be combated.

From this reform, it was proposed to prolong the presidency of Zaldívar in the Court, so that the reform could be implemented, but it was rejected by the ministers themselves, because it violated the 4-year period for those who preside over the Court.
