A little girl recovers as her mother fights for survival after they were both shot in a violent incident in the Olney neighborhood of Philadelphia on Wednesday night.
The event took place in the 100 block of East Albanus Street at about 7:59 pm when the victims were sitting on the balcony of a home.
The minor was shot in each leg, while the mother was shot in the head and several times throughout the body. Police believe that both were caught in a crossfire between rival groups in the area.
“It’s a tragedy,” said Philadelphia Police Assistant Commissioner James Kelly. “The mother was sitting on the balcony with her daughter and the unthinkable happened. The adult is serious, but thank God, the minor is expected to recover soon.”
Police have a person of interest in custody and a weapon was recovered. They are currently looking for any surveillance video of the shooting, as well as witnesses.
