A badly damaged ship saved itself in the port of Emden on Tuesday morning. The vehicle had previously collided with an obstacle, the water police (WSPSt) in Oldenburg suspected. Further details could not be given at the moment. Investigators are puzzled about the cause.
According to the WSPSt, the “Petra L.” from Szczecin in Poland en route to the port of Antwerp in Belgium. On board: around 1,500 tons of grain. But the ship didn’t make it that far. Accordingly, it entered the port with an approximately 15 square meter hole in the front area of the outer skin and moored there.
The water police had been informed of the damage and informed the relevant authorities. They now deal with the reconstruction of what happened. At the moment, the officials could not explain how the massive damage could have happened.

The 74 meter long “Petra L.” is reportedly flying the Antigua flag and, according to information from the “Nordwest Zeitung” (NWZ), is said to have been in the area of the East Frisian islands of Juist and Norderney before “significantly losing speed”, according to the newspaper. In addition, the ship had “briefly” deviated from its original route. Then, according to the data, it headed for the port of Emden.
A police officer told the “NWZ” that the hole in the ship was “as big as a barn door”, but he had no idea how the massive damage could have occurred. According to the report, the ship will be examined by Emder Werft und Dock GmbH (EWD) and repaired if necessary. According to the police, no one was injured.
