Colored clothes, cleaning, sweeping or even eating grapes at each of the chimes of the clock and making a wish during that process are part of the rituals or customs that some people carry out to receive the New Year.

However, there are also some tips that can be considered in case you want to fatten your pockets and very independently of wanting to save to buy what you dream of or specific goal.

These are recommendations that are usually made some citizens, because they have explained that when they do them they feel that luck has changed. However, it is not something 100 percent proven.

1.- Eating lentils.- One of the actions that some people usually carry out is eating a plate of lentils, minutes before the end of the year, since it is supposedly a process that they take into account so that money is not lacking. Even in some countries like Italy, this food symbolizes wealth and money.

Although if you don’t want to eat them or it’s to your liking, then you can put a handful of lentils on a plate and when the 12 bells ring, throw them over your head and pick them up later to carry them with you forever.

2.- The purse.- This belief invites those interested to carry a red purse throughout the night. However, the utensil will need to have 13 gold coins or a high denomination bill to attract wealth.

3.- The ticket in the shoe.- Another of the rituals that have been shared for the new year is that those who wish can put a high-denomination ticket inside their right shoe and some bay leaves in the left.

At the end of the night of December 31, you will need to keep the paper money you folded in your wallet and keep it for the entire year. According to beliefs, the laurel serves to attract good fortune at work, as well as abundance in your life.

In many families, toasting with glasses is considered a good omen. because it is linked to happiness and it is believed that bubbles are related to her. The act of clinking glasses is normally done with sparkling wine or cider.

The New Year represents an infinity of rituals whose purpose is success, happiness, prosperity, love and peace; these arise as a result of our traditions and desires to start the year on the right foot.

Other customs related to this celebration have been added over the years. In other states they also carry out specific activities. For example, in Oaxaca, young Zoques they dress up as “huehues” (old men) and they “burn” the old year, to receive the New Year.

When the bells ring that announce the start of the New Year, in various regions of the world it is customary to eat 12 grapes that for some people only represent each month of the year, but for other purposes or wishes to fulfill.

In Mexico we celebrate the new year with beliefs that link us to other world cultures and rituals that keep us connected to our past. When eating the 12 grapes, 12 wishes are made, most of them related to health, fortune and love.
