Spotify has long seen podcasts as an important ace up its sleeve in the battle for listeners. Now even Google has caught on – podcasts are officially coming to YouTube Music and are starting to be rolled out in the US. It writes The Verge.

Coincidentally, it was at an event directed by The Verge that YouTube announced in February that a podcast venture was imminent. Now the kick-off is in earnest and even if the venture is initially USA-exclusive, more countries are expected to follow shortly.

In the YouTube Music app, a separate tab is created for podcasts – both audio and video programs – and updates should now be available for IOS, Android and in the browser version.
