Netflix’s One Piece live-action series unfolds a bit more. A costume from the live-action adaptation shows off and reassures fans of Oda’s cult work.

One Piece, it’s more than 1000 chapters in manga and the bar of 1000 episodes exceeded for the anime. Outstanding longevity. Eiichirō Oda’s work shouldn’t stop any time soon, although we’re still closer to the conclusion of Luffy’s story than its beginning. One Piece also knows how to export to the video game market. The recent One Piece Odyssey prove. On the other hand, there is a field on which the manga has never ventured: the live-action. Netflix and Eiichiro Oda have been working on a series with real actors for a long time. Despite some concerns about this adaptation, fans are eagerly awaiting it. Good news: a new preview of the series has just leaked on Twitter.

Navy costume unveiled, One Piece fans happy

The “One Piece Netflix Fan” Twitter account has indeed unveiled the costume that the Marines will wear in the series. The outfit is rather faithful to that of the manga and the anime. Only one detail bothers the fans: the absence of the jacket usually worn by the Navy on the actor visible in the foreground. Presumably, some people present behind him are still wearing it. The outfit also exists sleeveless, but Netflix and Eiichirō Oda seem to have opted for the other version in their adaptation.

Once is not custom, the fans seem rather divided in comments. The majority of them appreciate that the outfit is faithful to the original, on the other some find that they are still too “cheap”. In February 2022, the Navy costumes had already leaked, but looked quite different from this one. It will still take more to reassure the public about the quality of the adaptation of One Piece by Netflix.

Finally a memorable live-action adaptation?

A few weeks ago, the leaker Divine Seeker indicated that a private screening of the first episodes of One Piece had taken place. The first returns would be particularly bad and the writing would be questioned in particular. Another criticism made of the show: it would not be at all accessible to those uninitiated in the universe created by Oda. All this was obviously a rumor, which would have been debunked since.

Adaptations of manga or anime in live-action series rarely give satisfaction to the public. The film Death Note, released on Netflix in 2017, is still fondly remembered by fans and not for the right reasons. Let’s not forget either Dragon Ball Evolutionreleased in 2009… The live-action series One Piece raises a lot of expectations and meeting them would be a real feat on the part of Netflix and Eiichirō Oda. The series could land next September, with no specific date yet.
