Attention, dear film and series friends: The Oscar nominations 2023 were announced freshly at 2:30 p.m. via live stream and are really heating up the 95th Awards Ceremony the most important international film award, which will take place in Los Angeles in mid-March. The small-scale show was hosted by Riz Ahmed (“Sound of Metal”, “Venom”) and M3GAN star Allison Williams (damn funny horror comedy – our movie review). There were big surprises, powerful blockbuster films and a very clear Academy favorite, the the big favorites of the main show should count.

could shine particularly well the A24 film Everything Everywhere All At Once. The wild genre mix of the “Swiss Army Man” directors took home 11 nominations and is therefore considered this year’s front runner. Including even in prestige categories like Best picture, best director and Best Original Screenplay. The cast, led by Michelle Yeoh, was also able to score four times in the acting categories – that hasn’t happened in a long time. Other big “winners” among the numerous productions: Nothing New in the West, The Banshees of Inisherin (both with 9 nominations) and Baz Luhrman’s biopic Elvis (8).

This is followed by a surprising number of blockbusters, which otherwise tend to go sour on the fringes of the festivities. The box office giants Top Gun: Maverick (6), Black Panther Wakanda Forever (5) and Avatar 2 (4) are also among the frontrunners of this year’s Oscars and round off the list of favorites in 2023. Particularly exciting: The James Cameron blockbuster Avatar: The Way of Water – one of the most successful films of all time – was even nominated for Best Picture, and Angela Bassett also gets the very first acting nomination for an MCU film – deserved! Her rousing performance as Queen Ramonda is clearly one of the highlights of Black Panther: Wakanda Forever.

You can find out how other big films like The Batman or the visually stunning Chazelle film Babylon are doing in our overview of the Oscars 2023. We also tell you where and when the Oscars will be held and how to attend the awards ceremony on March 12th can look.

When & where will the 2023 Oscars take place?

This year’s Oscars awards ceremony will be held on March 12, 2023 instead of. As usual, the Los Angeles show will be held at the Dolby Theater. Due to the time difference, the live transmission will of course be broadcast at night in Germany, around between 02:00 and 06:00. In recent years, the private broadcaster Pro Sieben has been responsible almost exclusively for this, which is on site with a team led by cinema expert Steven Gätjen. Whether that will be the case this year is still unclear, but should hardly be doubted. The show will again be hosted by late-night host Jimmy Kimmel, who previously hosted the Oscars in 2017 and 2018, replacing last year’s team of Amy Schumer, Wanda Sykes and Regina Hall.

What do you think of the Academy’s decisions for the 2023 Oscars? What are the major controversies and which films do you think have been cold-hearted? The historical film The Northman, created by Robert Eggers? Or something else? Tell us your thoughts and opinions in the comments.
