Imagined in 1929 by the Academy of Cinema Arts and Sciences, the Oscars, or Academy Awards in English, are the supreme awards of American cinema. His trophy depicts a knight on a film reel, holding a sword. Imagined as a celebration of the Hollywood industry, the ceremony has rarely seen triumph in the queen category of the best film of non-English-language feature films – with the exception of The Artist and of Parasite. Its history has been marked by boycotts and controversies of all kinds, not to mention the many great directors snubbed, from Alfred Hitchcock to David Lynch via Stanley Kubrick, Charlie Chaplin and Orson Welles. Among the most awarded films are Ben Hur, titanic And The Lord of the Rings: The Return of the King, with 11 statuettes each. Producer Walt Disney is the most awarded person, with 22 Oscars.
