The 17-year-old was killed in clashes during a military operation near Jericho.

A Palestinian was killed Monday (May 1st) by Israeli army fire in the occupied West Bank, the Palestinian health ministry reported. “Jibril Mohammed Kamal al-Laada, 17, was shot in the head and six others were injured, three seriously”the ministry announced.

The facts took place in the refugee camp of Aqabat Jaber, near Jericho, according to the Israeli army. “During an operation in Aqabat Jaber, armed suspects fired at the soldiers who responded with live ammunition”, said the army, adding that one person had been hit. The army announced that it had arrested 17 suspects in operations “counter-terrorism” in the West Bank overnight from Sunday to Monday, including three in Aqabat Jaber.

The Israeli-Palestinian conflict has seen a wave of increased violence since January. The death of Jibril Mohammed Kamal al-Laada brings to 101 the number of Palestinians killed since the beginning of the year. Nineteen Israelis, a Ukrainian and an Italian were killed during the same period, according to an AFP tally compiled from official Israeli and Palestinian sources. These statistics include, on the Palestinian side, combatants and civilians, including minors, and, on the Israeli side, mostly civilians, including minors and three members of the Arab minority.
