Washington DC, EU.- The Pentagon stressed this Wednesday that it respects the sovereignty of the Government of Mexico, a day after President Andrés Manuel López Obrador accused it, the DEA and the media of spying on the Mexican Armed Forces.

According to the EFE news agency, a spokesperson said that the Defense Secretariats of both countries “enjoy a collaborative association. Both respect the sovereignty of the other and their respective foreign policy agendas,” he explained.

The Mexican President pointed out that the Army and the Navy are being spied on by the Pentagon and the DEA, for which reason he will close information from the Armed Forces.

“Well, we also have to take care of our information, for national security, I already made this decision. We are going to take care of the information from the Secretary of the Navy and the Secretary of Defense,” the President said at a press conference.

Later, Foreign Minister Marcelo Ebrard said that the Government of Mexico will ask the United States, through diplomatic channels, for information related to the alleged espionage that the Pentagon has carried out on the Mexican Army.

He explained that Mexico’s position will be defined based on the response given by the US authorities.

“We will make an approach through the appropriate diplomatic channels, asking that. Today (yesterday) we are going to do it, asking that we be informed, that we be given the details, it is an obligation of the United States to share it with Mexico or, in its case, not to share it , but to point out that the information is not true,” he said.

A leaked Pentagon document, obtained by The Washington Post, indicates that the Mexican Army and Navy are in tension over alleged tasks that López Obrador has assigned to Sedena.

The Government of Mexico has not denied or confirmed this information.
