Only a tiny percentage of the sightings investigated by the US Department of Defense’s “Bureau for the Resolution of Anomalies in All Areas” can reasonably be described as “anomalous”. Also, to date, there has been no credible evidence of “alien activity, non-terrestrial technology, or objects that break the laws of physics.” These are the key statements made by the head of the All-domain Anomaly Resolution Office (AARO) during a public hearing in the US Senate this week. There are still a large number of reports that cannot be explained. This is mainly due to the fact that not enough data is available.

Before the US Armed Forces Committee assured AARO boss Sean Kirkpatrick nowthat his office has achieved a lot in the nine months since it was set up. Overall, his team has more than three dozen employees. He knows that there is a great deal of public interest in their work and that there is hope for answers. Questions about UFOs have been accompanied by mystery, sensationalism and conspiracy theories for decades. This is one of the reasons why they are committed to transparency and want to share as much as possible with the public. Anyone who comes to different conclusions should justify them scientifically. That’s how they do it at AARO, because that’s how science works – “not via blogs or social networks”.

The “All-domain Anomaly Resolution Office” has existed since July 2022. It stems from renewed interest in UFOs in the USA, which is based on several media reports and statements by former President Donald Trump. Shortly before he was voted out, he instructed authorities to report their findings on UFO sightings to the US Congress. AARO boss Kirkpatrick has now assured the US Congress that they would work with the US space agency NASA as soon as a sighting had gathered enough evidence pointing to an extraterrestrial origin. Only a few days ago, he showed that he is not averse to this, when he endorsed a thesis that the first interstellar comet ʻOumuamua (“Scout”) could not have been of natural origin.
