Pentiment is one of those games that does not necessarily move the crowds, but which will remain forever etched in the memories due to an exceptional quality. If you have finished the title, however, be aware that there will be no sequel.

Pentiment will remain an independent story

It was during a question about a possible sequel that Josh Sawyer, designer of Pentiment and director of Fallout: New Vegas, clarified his choice not to make a sequel to the game.

According to him, Pentiment was imagined as an independent story with a beginning and an end, with no new adventure to continue afterwards.

No, I have no intention of doing any sequel, spiritual or otherwise, to Pentiment. I always wanted it to be an independent story. It may inspire ideas (not just for me, I hope!) in the future, but I’m happy with how we left it.

In addition, Josh Sawyer took the opportunity to deliver a rather amusing anecdote on the name of the game. We thus learn that the original title of Pentiment was in fact “Palimpsest”, but Microsoft’s legal department having sensed potential difficulties in obtaining this name, the title was renamed Pentiment. According to Wikipedia, a A palimpsest (from the ancient Greek παλίμψηστος / palímpsêstos, “scraped again”) is a manuscript consisting of a parchment already used, whose inscriptions have been removed in order to be able to write on it again.

Released in November 2022, Pentiment received an excellent critical reception (read the test) and remains available today on Xbox, PC and in the Xbox Game Pass.
