It is a very futuristic prototype, but which nevertheless contains the ingredients of future Peugeot models. Discovery of the Inception concept.

After being unveiled at CES in Las Vegas earlier this year and before flying to the Shanghai show, the Peugeot Inception concept was in Paris in March. The opportunity for us to discover it in the presence of the design director of the lion brand Matthias Hossann.

An interview to be found in our program “En Route pour Demain” of April 22 and which allows us to anticipate the elements that we will be able to find on future Peugeot models. The signature in three luminous claws at the front can already be found on the freshly restyled 508, for example.

Vision of the future

For the rest, it is much more futuristic, in particular with a luminous logo, which we will be able to find at Peugeot and other brands very soon with the current evolution of European regulations on this subject. An ongoing evolution of light signatures which will also be mentioned in a future episode of En Route pour Demain”.

The interior is discovered with the impressive opening of the two enormous motorized antagonistic doors with automatic opening.

We discover an ultra-modern interior, with a particular lighting atmosphere linked to the use of special glass. It has benefited from a multichroic treatment (treatment with metal oxide baths) and is used on the 7.25 m2 of glazed surface of the vehicle.

With a slightly yellowish tint, it allows light to enter on board, without overheating the interior. We find this type of glass in the architecture and on the visors of the helmets of NASA astronauts, explained Peugeot.

Ambiance zen et techno

Inside, the atmosphere is both zen and technological, well connected with the electric motorization of the concept.

After testing Lexus’ “throttle wheel” in a rolling prototype of its new RZ SUV, Peugeot also adopts on this concept an electronic steering “by wire”, without steering column. What also inspire the design of a very original steering wheel, the “hypersquare” which takes a rectangular shape with circular cells.

“The design of this steering wheel was dictated by ergonomics to have another way of apprehending the road, intuitive, simple, but with a search for sensations and a new driving pleasure”, as explained to us Guillaume Lemaître, Peugeot interior design manager.

A steering wheel that can fit inside the dashboard, because yes, in addition to being 100% electric, this Inception can also go into 100% autonomous mode.

Behind this steering wheel, a funny circular screen, “the halo cluster”. It can display information both to the driver, to the passenger but also to the outside. What to anticipate the next evolutions of the i-cockpit of the future Peugeot.
