On Monday, February 6, after more than three years of the premeditated murder of Fernando Báez Sosa, perpetrated on January 18, 2020 by eight rugby players at the exit of the Le Brique nightclub in Villa Gesell, the verdict of the judges and the sentences of the aforementioned defendants were handed down. Five of them received the maximum sentence, life imprisonment (35 years in prison), while the remaining three will have to spend 15 years in prison for being considered secondary participants.
The rugby players in question, are still in the same pavilion of the Mayor’s Office No. 3 of Melchor Romero, from where they are after being arrested for the crime against Báez Sosa. However, today, your situation will change, since it will be defined to which prisons they will be sent to begin serving their sentence. As is often the case in cases where a perpetrator receives a high sentence, young people are assisted by psychologists.
Due to the repercussions of the case in the media, particularly due to the premeditation, on-the-spot coordination, classism, and viciousness of Fernando’s murderers, who is known to have been harassed inside the nightclub, struck by surprise, separated from those who wanted to help him, with the area freed from police and later kicked to death, the other inmates clamor to have the men close rugby players to turn them into “their women” by systematically raping them.
Until now, due to the separation with which the murderers were benefited and the pacts between themselves, in the first instance in silence and concealment of evidence after murdering Fernando and until the end of the trial, wanting to convince the jury that the The death of Báez Sosa occurred in a fight; these young people were not attacked. However, from now on, they will be separated. The first problem that the prosecution faces when deciding the fate of the murderers will be overpopulation and overcrowding in the prisons.
Events during and after sentencing
The day the sentence reached by the group of three magistrates in the case of Fernando’s murder was handed down, a series of events took on media relevance. At that time, his mother, Rosalía Zárate, accused the media present of having tortured him for three years and demanded that they be thrown out of the premises, which they did.
On the other hand, after retiring from the Oral Criminal Court (TOC) No. 1 of Dolores, The lawyers for Silvino Báez and Graciela Sosa, the victim’s parents, said they will appeal the decision that three of the murderers receive 15 years in prison, demanding life for all of them.
