There are a few good reasons for returning deposit bottles with lids. They can be better processed and reused.
Returnable bottles have become a popular way to reduce waste in recent years environment to protect. Returned returnable bottles are reused – and there is less waste. But what is the best way to return deposit bottles? With or without a lid?
How do you recognize reusable bottles?
Reusable bottles can be recognized by the deposit amount printed on the bottle. This amount will be refunded upon return at a deposit point or in supermarkets. Reusable bottles are mostly made of high-quality material such as glass or robust plastic and are marked with a special seal such as the Blue Angel. Another feature of returnable bottles are the closures, such as the screw caps, which enable the bottle to be opened and closed several times.
Why should returnable bottles with lids be handed in?
A key reason to return with the cap is that the cap protects the bottle’s delicate threads. During the cleaning process in the washing systems, bottles are partially opened by machines, which can damage the thread without a cap and the bottle has to be sorted out. By the Returning Bottles with a lid ensures that the thread remains undamaged and the bottle can be reused.
Exceptions for crown caps
Will the bottle come with a bottle cap closed, they should proceed differently: return the bottle to the supermarket – if only because of the deposit – bottle caps in the garbage. Because they are made of sheet metal and have an inner plastic ring for sealing. They belong to and should be disposed of in the yellow sack.
More and more bottles with a tight cap
In order to improve climate protection, the EU issued a new directive that stipulates the use of reusable bottles with a tight cap. New bottles have a cap that can no longer be completely unscrewed but sticks to the bottle. According to the new regulations PET bottles up to a volume of three liters will in future only be sold with such closures. This prevents the lids from being lost, ending up as rubbish instead of being recycled.
