Relatives of Cubans in danger of deportation protest in Krome

A group of protesters are expected to protest around 7pm outside the Krome detention center, some say they will even go on hunger strike. All this due to the information of a possible deportation flight that would leave this Thursday morning.

Immigration activists and lawyers say that of the 36 Cuban migrants who were detained in October last year, there are still 9 or 10 people detained and that the majority would be in the Krome detention center.

But many of the relatives fear that this deportation order will come true tomorrow morning when a possible flight with Cuban migrants would leave that would finally be deported to the island.

In addition, there is the fear that they may be forced to do military service in Cuba or that their lives will be threatened when they arrive on the island.

The reason for this demonstration is to find a way to stop these deportations or seek to change the status of some of the detainees.

But can a stop deportation be requested before this happens, or any legal action before tomorrow?

The immigration lawyer, Miguel Inda-Romero, who has closely followed this case, explains that “many of them already have deportation applications that have been submitted but none have been approved, the chances of being able to achieve that are not very good.” ”.
