Reports: New York Yankees would have 1% hope of qualifying for Major League Baseball postseason

The disappointing 2023 season of the New York Yankees in the Major Leagues seems to have no end and now reports say the roster’s collective performance has left their chances of qualifying reduced to almost zero.

According to the Fangraphs statistics and projections page, the Yankees are in such a delicate position that at this point in the season they would almost be sentencing their elimination.

As of August 20 and with their eighth consecutive loss, including a pair of sweeps against the Atlanta Braves and their rival Boston Red Sox, now the Yankees retain just 1% hope of reaching October and thus try to achieve a new championship in MLB.

Of this statistic, 1% would represent his direct access to the postseason and also 1% in his chances of achieving one of the two wild card berths in the American League.

In fact, page estimates they also take it for granted that the Yankees will finish even with a negative record of 80 wins and 82 wins.

And if that was not enough, the Yankees live their worst season since 1995. Twenty-eight years ago, the Bronx had a negative record for the month of August and since then there has not been a single day of the regular season with more wins than losses at this point in the season.

However, on that occasion they ended up stepping on the accelerator to get into the postseason although they were eliminated by the Seattle Mariners.

Although many have been singled out for the Yankees’ 2023 campaign, the Fangraphs report also recalls that Aaron Judge’s injury at the beginning of June could have been momentous for the Yankees’ fall.

By June 5, the date Judge left the roster due to injury, the Yankees had up to 81.9% options to get into the October party.

Despite this, they will have to move their pieces correctly to reverse the situation and seek classification, but if they do not succeed, their objective will be to finish above .500 and not equal what was done in 1992, where they last finished with a negative record during the major league season.
