About two years after the release of Resident Evil Village, Capcom has removed its controversial DRM technology on the PC.

This is about Denuvo, which was thrown out of the Steam version by a new update.

In the criticism

Denuvo is generally criticized by PC gamers, partly because it is said to have a negative impact on the performance of games. That was also the case after the release of Resident Evil Village in May 2021.

This assumption was confirmed by a cracked version of the game that was released in July 2021 and ran significantly better than the official version.

More Resident Evil Village news:

In this case, perhaps the interaction of Denuvo and Capcom’s own copy protection was even more problematic. A month later, a patch was released that was supposed to improve performance. However, it remained unclear whether the two copy protection measures were really responsible for the problems together or whether it was due to a single technology.

As such, it will be interesting to see how Denuvo’s removal affects Resident Evil Village’s performance.
