Quickly have a delicious coffee before boarding the train – also with plant-based milk alternatives. At Berlin Ostbahnhof, this is now possible in a completely new way and together with Alpro until the end of March 2023: Because the fully automated coffee bar “the moc” freshly prepares many different coffee specialties in the highest barista quality. From the Americano to the Flat White – you can order shortly in advance via the app or directly on site. Each of the 15 drinks is freshly brewed and served by the robot the moc – Alpro Barista soy drink and Alpro Barista oat drink are used for the plant-based versions.

Hamburg-based Dilara Sayim and David Szielenski won the DB Mindbox retail start-up program with their invention the moc. The small stand has been at Berlin’s Ostbahnhof since the end of last year. With just a few clicks, real coffee connoisseurs can get their money’s worth around the clock. Patrick Neyret, Category Director Plant Based Danone DACH, knows that such innovative concepts are the perfect partner for Alpro: “As a pioneer in plant-based foods, Alpro has been able to inspire consumers for over 40 years. We look forward to continuing to do so in the future together with strong partners like the moc we are finding new ways to reach our customers!”

For the two the moc founders, in addition to choosing the right beans, the water quality and the brewing time, the choice of plant-based milk alternative is of central importance. “Of course, we would also like to offer plant-based options with our fully automated barista. During product development, we tested a large number of plant-based drinks for several weeks. Ultimately, we decided on the Alpro Barista oat drink and Barista soy drink. Both complement our hand-roasted drink, which was specially developed for the moc Coffee is excellent and convinced us both in terms of taste and its great foamability,” says co-founder Dilara Sayim.

In addition to taste, Sayim says technical feasibility is crucial. Different foam consistencies, whether airy and fluffy or compact, can be produced with many plant-based alternatives. In the most important test, the so-called withdrawal test, only Alpro was able to convince. “With some drinks, the soy or oat components settle after a certain time. The settled sediments would not only clog the fine mechanics – the taste and quality of the prepared drink would suffer considerably. With Alpro there was no settling, the drinks remain super homogeneous. That’s why the moc loves Alpro – great taste, great foam and technically top!”, explains Dilara Sayim.
