Rockstar almost made an open-world zombie game

Have you ever imagined what a game from Rockstar Games – developer famous for GTA and Red Dead Redemption – would be like, set in a post-apocalyptic world, full of zombies?

Well, the project was briefly developed, but ended up being discarded because it sounded like something “very depressed“, as reported by the company’s former developer, Obbe Vermeij(Via RockstarIntel).

Second Avoidthe game was called “Z” and, was being developed with the same code GTA: Vice City.

The idea was to place the player on an island full of zombies, where it would be necessary to move around using vehicles to survive and this would make the search for gasoline an important element of the gameplay.

When development – which lasted about a month – ended, the Rockstar completely turned to GTA: San Andreas.

Alm Z, Avoid revealed another project canceled by Rockstar, this one focusing on espionage, in the James Bond style. The game was internally called Jimmy.

The development of the spy game lasted a year, but the Rockstar interrupted and never reactivated, when he needed his entire team working in GTA 4.

Currently, the Rockstar is working on the highly anticipated GTA 6.

For the first time in the franchise, there will be a playable female protagonist. The woman, who is Latina, will be one of the protagonists of the story influenced by bank robbers Bonnie and Clyde.

Furthermore, the team is being very cautious with its jokes, as there is no intention of crossing a line about marginalized groups, in contrast to previous games.

The single-player map, which will depict a fictional version of Miami (the classic Vice City) and its surrounding areas, will receive updates over time, addingnew missions and cities regularly.

There is even an expectation that we will have more internal locations than any other title in the franchise, with the intention of increasing immersion.
