Sales: the excellent ASUS G14 gaming laptop goes to €1,799

Often, laptops offer finishes that are not necessarily very elaborate, the fault of the components which are already very expensive. It is then easy to understand the manufacturers who are reluctant to spend more to offer a qualitative chassis. Most therefore offer plastic cases with aggressive shapes (because it looks gamer) that are not necessarily very pleasant. But a few brands still manage to hold their own. We are thinking, among others, of Razer with its very sober black aluminum Blades, but also ASUS ROG, whose Zephyrus range is really very well finished.

Very well designed, these PCs offer a solid configuration in an envelope with limited dimensions, especially when you turn to the 14-inch version which is the most compact in the range. The catch is that these computers are expensive. Fortunately, with the winter sales, prices tend to drop to somewhat more reasonable levels. This is the case for example of this ASUS Zephyrus G14. Initially sold at 1999.99€, this laptop is currently offered at 1799€, i.e. 200€ less. Yes, it’s still a sum, but the on-board configuration justifies it.

For its Zephyrus G14, ASUS has chosen to make a beautiful and powerful machine. As said before, the chassis is particularly well thought out with hinges that raise the chassis to improve airflow and cooling. We must also mention the system of LEDs that adorns the back of the screen, and which allows you to display a message or an image, which is quite unique in current production.

It all starts with a 16:10 WUXGA IPS panel (1900×1200 pixels) whose colorimetry is certified by Pantone and which supports Dolby Vision HDR. In terms of performance, we are entitled to a response time of 3ms and a refresh rate of 144Hz, which should appeal to competitive players for whom absolute fluidity is essential. This panel is powered by a dedicated AMD Radeon RX 6700S graphics card with 8GB of dedicated memory.

We will therefore not benefit from DLSS or RTX, but SAM (Smart Access Memory) will be there, as will FSR (AMD’s VRR) even if few games support it. Concretely, we will have enough to run all the latest games without problems, this GPU offering rasterization performance similar to that of the RTX 3070 mobile.

At the heart of the chassis, there is an AMD Ryzen 7-6800HS processor which offers 8 cores and 16 threads with a frequency which oscillates between 3.2Ghz and 4.7Ghz in boost mode. This chip is supported by 16GB of RAM. Note also that the CPU and the GPU are equipped with the famous liquid metal thermal interface (like the PS5) in order to optimize performance.

Storage level, we are entitled to a 1TB M.2 PCIe 3.0 SSD which accommodates Windows 11. One of the strong points of this PC is of course its nomadic aspect since it weighs only 1.6Kg, or nearly 400g less than average. Similarly, we can save weight by powering it with a generic USB-C brick up to 100W, which will allow it to be used without problem in office automation and on undemanding games. On triple A titles, you will have to use the specific power supply provided, or see the battery drop since it will compensate for what the USB-C block cannot provide.
