A few weeks before their presentation, new images of the Samsung Galaxy A34 and A54 surface. The opportunity for us to take stock of the next mid-range smartphones from the Korean brand.

The Galaxy A34 and A54 will logically succeed the A33 and A53, two very popular phones from Samsung, with the Galaxy A13. Building on its success, the brand should not revolutionize the formula, but make some welcome improvements.

The design of the Galaxy A54 and A34

In 2023, Samsung would play the card of sobriety and unity by offering all its Galaxy smartphones a design similar to that of its high-end mobiles, the Galaxy S23. This results in three vertically aligned camera modules placed directly on the back of the phones. The entire camera block should come out slightly from the shell, but much less than that of the Galaxy S23 Ultra, to name a few.

On these images intended for marketing, we see that the borders around the screen would be very slightly wider than those of previous models. This obviously remains to be confirmed, which we will have the opportunity to do when we take control of the smartphones. We also see that on both phones, the bottom border is slightly thicker than the others.

The screens of the A34 and A54 would be perfectly flat. Visually, the biggest difference between the two models is at the level of the selfie camera module which is integrated in the form of a drop of water on the A34 and in the form of a punch for the A54.

More muscular technical sheets

In the mid-range, competition from Chinese brands is fierce. Samsung knows this perfectly and has decided to make some efforts on the technical sheet of its new smartphones.

Thus, the Galaxy A54 would be equipped with a 6.4-inch Full HD 120 Hz AMOLED screen with a new Exynos 1380 chip and 8 GB of RAM. Storage level, the user would have the choice between 128 or 256 GB, with expandable memory. On the photo side, the A54 would be equipped with three modules: a 50 Mpx wide-angle, a 12 Mpx ultra-wide-angle, a 5 Mpx macro / depth and a 32 Mpx front camera module.

For its part, the A34 would have a 120 Hz AMOLED screen (90 Hz on the previous model), a MediaTek MT6877V chip, 6 or 8 GB of RAM and 128 or 256 GB, again expandable using a microSD card. The photo configuration of the A34 is logically a little less muscular than that of its big brother: a 48 Mpx wide-angle, an 8 Mpx ultra-wide-angle, a 5 Mpx macro / depth and a 13 Mpx selfie module .

Both phones would benefit from a 5000 mAh battery and an IP67 certification for resistance to dust and water up to 1 meter for 30 minutes. The phones would run on Android 13 and One UI 5. Another strong argument for the two phones: they will be entitled, like their predecessors, to 4 years of major Android updates and 5 years of security updates.

What price and what release date?

The Galaxy A34 and A54 would be presented at the end of March by Samsung. No indiscretion has so far been able to reveal the price of the two devices. As an indication, the Galaxy A33 (5G) was launched at the recommended price of 379 and the Galaxy A54 (5G) at 459 €. The inflationary context leads us to think that the Korean manufacturer should not revise its prices downwards…
