Iranian security forces on Saturday arrested several people who wanted to “assassin” the father of Mahsa Amini, whose death a year ago sparked a massive protest movement, the official Irna news agency reported, AFP reports.

Mahsa Amini, a 22-year-old Iranian Kurdish woman, died on September 16, 2022 in police custody after she was arrested by the morality police for allegedly violating Iran’s strict dress code for women. His death led to weeks of protests against the regime.
“Security forces have arrested several members of a terrorist group who wanted to assassinate Amjad Amini, the father of Mahsa Amini,” IRNA quoted Kurdistan Provincial Deputy Governor Mehdi Ramezani as saying.
That attack had been “thwarted”, he added, without giving details of the “terrorist group”.
Masha Amini’s father, briefly arrested
Earlier, human rights groups said Iranian security forces briefly detained Mahsa Amini’s father.
Amjad Amini was warned before he was released not to mark the anniversary of his daughter’s death, the Kurdistan Human Rights Network said.
Iran’s official news agency, IRNA, denied that Amjad Amini had been arrested, but did not say whether he was briefly detained or warned.
Earlier, social media and reports by human rights groups said security forces had taken up positions around Amini’s home in Saqez, western Iran.
IRNA said the attempted attack took place while Amjad Amini was visiting his daughter’s grave in a cemetery in the city of Saqqez in Kurdistan province.
Since the start of the protest movement, hundreds of people, including members of the police, have been killed and thousands more have been arrested. Seven men were executed after being accused of killing or injuring law enforcement.
