Sports Story, the sequel to the fun golf simulator Golf Story, got its final launch just before Christmas. Originally, the Nintendo Switch game was to be released two years earlier, but the development period was marked by major difficulties.
Exactly what went wrong at the game’s Australian developer has been unclear, but a secret buried in the new game offers an uneasy glimpse behind the scenes.

As the YouTube channel “tendog” shows in the video to the right, players can – with a little tinkering and trickery – get to a hidden room full of the game’s developers. These have something to say about all the problems.
– Our new game is coming any moment now, says one of the figures in the room.
– You said that a year ago, replies another in frustration before several voices in:
– You could probably say that we are in a troubled development period.
– You could also say that someone kept asking for new features and my original vision no longer exists.
The design team further complains that the new features were prioritized over making sure the game actually worked. The writing team then argue about whose game characters were the best, while the game testers find errors that they have already reported to the programmer.
Sports Story also received a lukewarm reception from both critics and fans. In particular, many have highlighted the game’s technical flaws, developed by Sidebar Games working on fixing.
