A chain of shootings that the authorities are classifying as alarming took place in recent days in the US. The most shocking occurred in Illinois where one person died and 22 others were injured.
A day of celebration marred by mass shootings across the country. Deadly shootings that erupted in Illinois, Missouri, Washington, and California; in addition to another bloody incident that occurred in Georgia this Sunday morning.
In total at least 5 people died and more than 35 were injured.
Eric Swanson of the Dupage County Sheriff’s Office said, “Preliminary witness and victim reports indicate that at least 20 people were shot. At this time, one victim is deceased.”
It was the toll left by multiple shots fired by a group of unknown individuals into a crowd in Willowbrook, Illinois, during a commemoration of the Juneteenth holiday weekend.
“The victims were transported to various hospitals in Dupage, Cook and Will counties. The motive behind this incident is unclear and there is still an active investigation,” Eric Swanson said.
In St.Louis. Missouri, another shooting during the night left a young man dead and another nine wounded in the Downtown sector.
But the chain of violent acts did not end there, two people died and three were injured near the Beyond Wonderland electronic dance music festival in Washington state.
There police said the suspect fired “randomly in the crowd” at a camp near the George Amphitheater in the small town of George, about 149 miles east of Seattle.
For its part in San Diego, California, one person died and another was injured after a shooting that occurred in a city park due to an altercation between two subjects.
In the eastern part of the country, five people were injured in a shooting outside a nightclub in Decatur, Georgia, this morning. At the moment, there is no information on the suspects in that shooting.
According to the Gun Violence Archive, there have been 307 mass shootings in the United States in 2023, when it comes to just one incident in which at least four people, other than the shooter, were shot.
