We have previously written about Skyblivion – the fan project that aims to recreate the entirety of The Elder Scrolls IV: Oblivion in the game engine of the sequel Skyrim. Now the team behind it has released a new trailer that you can watch above, and also a hint about when the project will be launched. The plan is to release the project in 2025 at the latest.

The project has been in development for multiple years, with around 50 volunteer developers putting a lot of effort into recreating Cyrodiil, complete with all the quests, landmasses and people. More improvements and adaptations are also to be planned.

The result seems impressive based on what the developers have shown so far. When the project is finished it will be available on PC, and can be installed on top of The Elder Scrolls V: Skyrim – Special Edition.

The first encounter with the Elder Scrolls for many

The Elder Scrolls IV: Oblivion was first released in 2006, and was for many the first encounter with The Elder Scrolls universe. The large open game was praised in its time for its graphics, freedom of choice and impressive world. We were no less than giving the game top score here on the website in our review.

Compared to the other games in the series, Oblivion is a more colorful and fantasy-themed game, with a warmer and more lush climate than both Morrowind and Skyrim.

Work is also underway on a similar project – called Skywind – which seeks to recreate The Elder Scrolls III: Morrowind in the Skyrim engine. The project currently has no release date.
