The lack of substantial Ukrainian advances on the front in Zaporozhye province, in southeastern Ukraine, is giving the Russians time to lay new minefields in the area of the city of Tokmak, the Ukrainian Strategy Center warned today in its daily bulletin, according to Reasonablyquoted by Rador Radio Romania.

“The delay in the advance of the forces of the Strategic Operational Group Tavria in the direction of Tokmak gives the adversary the opportunity to ‘sow’ new minefields inside its defensive positions,” the report of this think tank states.

According to the bulletin, Russian attacks against the flanks of Ukrainian forces fighting in that area of the front in Zaporozhye province are forcing Kiev to deploy more artillery to counter these attacks.

Ukraine continues its offensive towards the city of Tokmak and Melitopol, but has failed to liberate any other cities since it announced the capture of the village of Robotine in late August.

According to Thursday’s report of the General Staff in Kiev, Ukrainian forces repelled Russian attacks in the past 24 hours in the vicinity of Novodarivka, Verbove and Robotine, all located in the hot zone of the Zaporizhia front.

Despite the lack of substantial progress, the General Staff explains that the Ukrainian troops continue their offensive and cause daily heavy human and material losses to the enemy.
