Small plane crashes in southeast Florida and one of its occupants dies

One person died after a small plane crashed into a structure in Fort Pierce, in St. Lucie County, the sheriff’s office confirmed.

County Sheriff Ken Mascara said at about 12:04 pm Thursday, 911 received calls about a small aircraft crash near the intersection of Orange Avenue and Sneed Road in Fort Pierce.

The images showed the plane that crashed into the structure of what appears to be a hangar near Orange Avenue.

Officials from St. Lucie County and units from the St. Lucie County Fire District arrived at the scene and found two people inside the four-seat Piper Aircraft. One was transported to a local hospital and the other died at the scene due to his injuries, Mascara reported.

Detectives from the St. Lucie County Sheriff’s Office assist the National Transportation Safety Board (NTSB), which is leading the investigation of the accident.

The identity of the people who were on board the plane or data on the destination or origin of the flight have not been reported.
