You don’t have to stick your finger in your mouth and stretch it in the air to understand that Sony has strong wind in its sails. The other day they broke a historic quarterly record with the Playstation 5, where the console became the best-selling console ever during the January-March quarter. Instead of sitting back, writes the industry magazine GamesindustrybizSony’s chief financial officer Hiroki Totoki believes that they now intend to gear up even more.

In a so-called “earnings call”, a public meeting where the company discusses the previous financial period, Totoki revealed that Sony plans to sell 25 million Playstation 5 consoles in the fiscal year 2023-2024, a full six million more than in 2022-2023. He attributes the high-flying goals to, among other things – in addition to the already increased production rate – Marvel’s Spider Man 2, Playstation 4 players predicted to migrate, and the new IP.

This would mean that Sony will sell an average of six million PS5 consoles per quarter from now on, and that by this time next year they will have sold around 63 million consoles. Hats off if they succeed!

What do you think of Sony’s plans, are they reasonable?
