Sad news for Sum 41 fans: the Canadian band is retiring after 27 years on stage. The members announced this in a statement.

Sum 41 has been around since 1996, but the punk rock band will soon disband. The group has now announced this on their Instagram account, among other things. Playing in the band for so many years has given the musicians around founding member and vocalist Deryck Whibley some “of the best moments of our lives”. “We will forever be grateful to our fans, old and new, who have supported us in every way possible,” writes the band and clarifies: “Sum 41 will disband.”

The band’s breakthrough came with their debut album “All Killer No Filler”, which was released on May 8, 2001 – exactly 22 years ago to the day. Her best-known song “Fat Lip” also comes from the record. But singles like “Still Waiting” from the following year also became a success.

Album and numerous concerts planned

Anyone who would like to see the group live again will have the opportunity to do so in just a few weeks. Sum 41 will play several festivals in Europe. In Germany, the band performs at Rock am Ring and Rock im Park. The two festivals will take place from June 2nd to 4th at the Nürburgring and in Nuremberg. In addition, The Offspring and Simple Plan will be on the “Let the Bad Times Roll Tour” in the USA in August and September.

Apparently there will be another tour – and a new album is also planned. “We will still be going on all of our currently upcoming tour dates this year and we look forward to releasing our latest album ‘Heaven :x: Hell’ alongside a final worldwide tour to celebrate,” the statement said Tape. Exact details will be revealed as soon as possible.
