Suspect arrested for stealing dozens of birds

The man suspected of stealing 69 birds valued at approximately $10,000 in an incident that occurred last Wednesday at a Lake Worth Beach home is behind bars in the Palm Beach County Jail.

Damián Ramallo, 42, who already had a criminal record since 2008, refused to appear before the bail judge.

After being arrested Saturday morning, once -according to the authorities- he began to throw the birds in the trash when he heard that the media reported on their theft. According to the police, only a few birds have been recovered.

“It made me happy, I thought that by grabbing it I think I’m going to recover the dog and some of my animals that he took,” said Rider Caballero, a victim of the theft of the birds, who explained that the suspect two days before the theft of the birds had entered his house and had taken a puppy dog.

The victim assures that this is good news for his partner. “My wife was happy because now she is not panicking, she is not so nervous, you know that someone is going to enter the house, that someone is going to attack her or something because that was her fear or that they would do something to the children, That was the fear she had, but we already know that he is in prison.”

Authorities have confirmed that while the suspect is in jail, the investigation is still ongoing. For the time being, the judge set him on $20,000 bail for two of the charges but denied him bail for robbery with a weapon.
